Two Jammers are National MVPs
On July 23, 2005, Jammers was honored by the selection of two members as Most Valuable Player in national competition.
The USAV High Performance Championship is a national competition in which each USAV region selects an elite team for inter-regional competition. Play was for four days from July 20 to July 23 in Austin, Texas, the home of Lance Armstrong and Stevie Ray Vaughn.

The USAV High Peformance program fielded two teams from the national High Performance Camp to play "up" in the Youth National Division. Jammer Kanani Herring was key to the success of the USAV HP Red team, which won first place in the Youth National Division.

The Aloha Region HP team was coached by Coach Deb. Five Jammers were scheduled to play on the team but due to other sports and injury, only three Jammers were able to play in Austin. Chanteal Satele, Jordan Meredith and La Shawn Dela Cruz Kaopua were the only active Jammers on the team. Anuhea Akamine was injured a few days before the trip. Other players on the team were Rainbow Asics' Tatiana Santiago, Sydney Yogi, Haililani Pokipala and Sammy Misa. Rebekah Torres from HIVA was the region's 8th player. The Aloha Region won first place. Our Hawaii team was the only team in the HP age group which did not lose a single match.
The all tournament team for each age group was selected by all of the coaches with the provision that no coach may vote for a player from his/her region. Jammer Kanani Herring was chosen Most Valuable Player of the Youth National Division.

Jammer Jordan Meredith was chosen Most Valuable Player of the High Performance Division.
The Aloha Region Youth National Team has three Jammers, Tricia Yoshimura, Deven Bukowski, and Marya Kaminski. The region's Youth National Division placed second in the Youth National Division in the Intermountain Region's global challenge which featured teams from China, Russia, Slovenia and elite regional teams in Salt Lake City. The Aloha Region's Junior National Team (born in 1986 or later) has one current Jammer, Kaui Todd, and one graduated Jammer, Dani Hout. The Aloha Region team was third in the Global Challenge.

Other National Competition at the end of July

USA Volleyball is the National Governing Body for the sport of volleyball in the United States. They run and manage the USA National Men’s and Women’s Volleyball Teams, the USA Olympic Teams, and also USA Youth and Junior National Teams for each gender. The Youth and Junior National Teams, along with a number of tiered training programs, fall under the High Performance (HP) Department.
The HP Department works to advance volleyball talent and build a broader and stronger pipeline of athletes and coaches for our USA Olympic Teams. The HP Program at USA Volleyball is the "pipeline" for young volleyball athletes who aspire to reach the elite level of their sport and who dream to one day represent the USA on the National Men’s or Women’s Volleyball Team.
HP provides many team and camp opportunities for young volleyball athletes in three designated age groups for each gender. These age groups are determined by an athlete's year of birth (using international criteria) and begin approximately when they are 13 or 14 years old, continuing for six seasons, often into their collegiate years.

High Performance Tryouts
Entry into HP programs is based upon selection at one of many USA National High Performance Tryouts. These tryouts are held across the country from January through April. Boys HP Tryouts are typically held from January through February and Girls HP Tryouts are typically held February through April.
Registration is required to participate in a High Performance tryout along with a tryout fee.

Evaluation and Selection from HP Tryouts
Through the HP Tryouts (which includes approximately three hours of court time), athletes strive to be selected for a National-level Team or Camp in their age group. Athletes are evaluated and ranked based on the entire tryout population from across the country.

National High Performance Programs Age Groups
  • USA Select is the youngest program and for example for 2009 must be born 1994, 1995 or earlier
  • Youth group is the next youngest and the girls must be born 1992, 1993
  • Junior group is the oldest USA Girls and the girls must be born 1990, 1991

USA Select Programs
Highest Level team A1- In the youngest age group (USA Select), 30 athletes are selected to the National A1 Program will participate in a five to six day training camp with the other top athletes selected from tryouts. That group will then be broken into 3- USA SELA1 teams (Red, White, Blue) that compete at the USA Volleyball High Performance Championships.
Below the National A1 Program in each gender there are one to four levels of training programs that athletes may be selected to participate in. These include:
  • A2 programs (Jammer Jordan) (Boys and Girls),
  • A3 Camps (Girls),
  • Training Camps (Girls), and
  • Development Camps (Girls).
Each camp is four to five days and provides athletes the training and feedback necessary to move to the next level of performance.

Youth & Junior Programs
In the Youth and Junior Age groups, nineteen athletes are selected to the National Training Team. The National Training Team will train for 10-14 days during which the team will be paired down to a final squad of twelve athletes.
Below the National Team, the athletes selected to the National A2 Program will participate in a four to five day training camp with the other top athletes selected from tryouts. Athletes will then be divided into USA A2 teams and compete at the USA Volleyball High Performance Championships.

Our subsequent training programs for Youth and Junior Athletes are the A3 Camps (Boys and Girls), Training Camps (Youth Girls), and Development Camps (Youth Girls). Each camp is four to five days and provides athletes the training and feedback necessary to move to the next level of performance.
State of Hawaii Aloha Region High Performance Team
Those girls who did not make the A1 team but would still like to compete in the High Performance Championship Tournament may tryout for the Aloha Region High Performance team that travels to play in the National High Performance Championship.

USA Volleyball High Performance Championships
Each year the USAV hosts the High Performance Championship Tournament in which teams comprised of players selected in national competitive tryouts for the USAV's High Performance program compete against each other and against American regional select teams and international teams.
